The Spits lay waste to the West Coast!

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

shanty_spits_blog1Seattle’s garage-punk miscreants The Spits are leaving their fortified compound for a week’s worth of shows along the left coast. They’ll kick things into gear with an appearance at Portland’s Vice / Scion Garage Fest alongside Roky Erickson, The Black Lips, The Dirtbombs, Jay Reatard, and a host of others before heading down the coast on their own, including a two-night residence at San Francisco’s famed Thee Parkside.

Last month, the band released their fourth self-titled album, officially titled “The Spits” but better known amongst record geeks and collector nerds as “IV” or the “School’s Out” LP. CD and digital formats were delivered by Recess Records, and vinyl was handled by the band’s own Thriftstore Records.

10/17 – Portland, OR @ Vice / Scion Garage Fest
10/21 – San Francisco, CA @ Thee Parkside

shanty_spits_blogRenegade degenerates The Spits have just divulged the entirety of their latest and most nefarious album to date. Hosted courtesy of the fiendish audio technicians at Punknews.org, the album bares the official title of “The Spits” but is better known by most underground street peddlers and petty criminals as “IV” or the “School’s Out” LP.

Navigate your browser here to make your ears hemorrhage in ecstasy.

Physical evidence of said recordings is currently available on compact disc from the delinquents at Recess Records and on long-playing phonograph record from the band’s own Thriftstore Records.

At the moment, the band is spending the bulk of their time meditating and preparing improvised homemade pyrotechnics for the coast-to-coast crusade they’ll be taking at the end of the month across the Northern states, from their hometown of Seattle to the shores of the East Coast. The Spits unleash two more songs from new album!

Friday, August 14th, 2009

spits_canderson_blogSeattle’s notorious garage-punk miscreants The Spits have disgorged two new psalms from their recently released album, officially titled “The Spits” but known amongst nerds as “IV” or the “School’s Out” LP. Wait ‘til your boss is out to lunch and then click over to their MySpace page to check out “Life of Crime” and “Eyesore City.”

A split release care of San Pedro’s Recess Records and their very own Thriftstore Records, their new album draws on the lo-fi simplicity and revolting snot of their previous efforts while moving into more far ominous territory stylistically, due largely in part to the members’ increasingly bleak outlook on modern civilization and a perceived foreshadowing of a looming apocalypse.

They’ll be taking their mayhem to the road next month for a coast-to-coast crusade from their hometown to the shores of the East Coast.

8/27 – Seattle, WA @ Chop Suey
8/29 – Portland, OR @ Dante’s
9/1 – Fargo, ND @ The Aquarium
9/2 – St. Paul, MN @ Turf Club
9/3 – Madison, WI @ The Frequency
9/4 – Milwaukee, WI @ The Garibaldi
9/5 – Kazoo, MI @ Papa Pete’s
9/6 – Chicago, IL @ Double Door
9/7 – LaFayette, IN @ Zoolegger’s
9/8 – Cincinnati, OH @ Comet Bar
9/9 – Cleveland, OH @ Beachland Tavern
9/10 – Rochester, NY @ Bug Jar
9/11 – Brooklyn, NY @ The Knitting Factory
9/12 – New York, NY @ The Cake Shop
9/13 – New Haven, CT @ Cafe Nine

Media reports of the bands’ recent activity have varied wildly, some praising the band for their unorthodox mannerisms and others left mired in utter confusion.

“This expectorates GENIUS! If they told me this was from ’78 and was a punk/lo-fi
new wave pioneer band I was supposed to worship I’d not question them for a second and would play along like I had their essential seven inch.” – Roctober Zine

“So simple and so cool… ‘77 style punk with a minimum of chords, buzzing guitar, a dollop of no wave keyboards and vocals that are a pure tribute to Joey Ramone (though more loutish).” – Suburban Voice

“What’s up with those moustaches? Are they cops? Are they Nazis? Are they dweebs? Are they capable of creating bombs and drugs in a lab? Do they really skate? I’m completely hypnotized by this.” – Scram
