The Riot Before announce US tour dates and detail video shoot for “Backstage Rooms!”

Friday, June 11th, 2010

The Riot Before recently shot a music video for their song “Backstage Rooms” from their new studio album “Rebellion”, released in April on Paper + Plastick. The video, directed by Lucas Krost was shot in their hometown of Richmond, VA this past May and should see the light of day later this summer.

Bassist Corry Manning had this to comment on the details of the video:

“We shot the video all day at Brett’s house. We started at about noon and went until 4 in the morning We were using smoke machines in the house and the ADT went off and about 4 fire trucks showed up. We had to explain to the firemen “its cool, we are shooting a video”.. It was one of the longest, most stressful days of my life. The worst part is, that we still have one more shot to get, but I did get to play dice, so that was cool but I lost a lot of money…not so cool. The concept of the video is the concept of the song. Once you do something enough times it starts to become routine and isn’t as cool anymore. So, the video starts out as the biggest and best raging party you have been to and ends up as the lamest worst party ever… bummer.”

You can check out some behind the scenes footage of the video being filmed here.

The band has also released a donation based download of a B-side from “Rebellion” entitled “Blank Slate.” All money raised from the download will go to support the organization These Numbers Have Faces. You can go to the charity’s website to download the song and hear a personal message from Brett Adams of The Riot Before about his involvement and support for These Numbers Have Faces.

If you haven’t heard “Rebellion”, it’s currently being streamed on the band’s Punknews.org profile.

“Rebellion” was tracked at The Magpie Cage in Washington, DC with legendary producer J. Robbins (Jawbox, Jawbreaker, Against Me!).

The Riot Before will also be hitting the road to support their new album. The month-long tour will find the band sharing the stage with label mates Blacklist Royals and a run of dates with Nothington and Heartsounds. You can click “more” for the dates!

Punknews.org launches stream of Leatherface’s “The Stormy Petrel!”

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

lf_cover_blogPunknews.org has launched a stream of the new album from Sunderland, UK’s Leatherface. You can head over to the band’s profile page to stream “The Stormy Petrel” in its entirety.

“The Stormy Petrel” is the band’s ninth full-length album and will be released by various labels worldwide. The North American LP/CD version will be released March 23rd via No Idea Records. Their version will feature an entirely different cover art and overall layout than the European, Japanese, and Australian versions released this week.

BYO Records released the band’s last album, Dog Disco, in 2004.

Leatherface formed in August 1988, and their music has often been described as a bastardized cross between Hüsker Dü and Motörhead. Though never attaining much more than a cult following outside their native country, the band has been cited as an influence by higher-profile band such as Hot Water Music, Dillinger Four, and Tiltwheel. Jack Rabid, music critic and publisher of the music magazine Big Takeover, once listed Leatherface’s 1991 release Mush as one of the fifty greatest punk albums of all time.

Leatherface recently flew over to Canada to start their Canadian/US tour, which concludes in an appearance at this year’s Harvest of Hope Fest in St. Augustine, FL. They will be joined on the road with Canada’s Yesterday’s Ring, with select shows featuring Bridge & Tunnel and The Riot Before. You can check out the dates by clicking “more” below.

The Riot Before post live acoustic video shot in… a bathroom!

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

trb_blog_11Richmond’s The Riot Before have posted a video of singer Brett Adams performing an acoustic rendition of their song “You Can’t Sexy Dance to Punk Rock” from the band’s last album, “Fists Buried In Pockets.” You can check it out right here.

The video is the first installment of Paper + Plastick’s Bathroom Tapes, a series the label hopes to continue with more acoustic performances filmed within all manner of stalls, porta-potties, and outhouses. The mad scientists of Thunderclap Supergenius filmed this edition, which follows in their line of previously posted intimate performances using only a single camera, a single microphone, and a single take. They’ve also posted videos from bands like Grabass Charlestons, Joey Cape & Jon Snodgrass, and Mike Hale & Austin Lucas.

The Riot Before recently wrapped up recording for their third full-length and Paper + Plastick debut, “Rebellion.” The album was tracked at The Magpie Cage in Washington, DC, with legendary producer J. Robbins (Jawbox, Jawbreaker, Against Me!). It is currently in the mixing stage, with an anticipated release date of March 16, 2010.

The Riot Before enter the studio with J Robbins!

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

trb_new_2Following on the heels of their recent tour with labelmates A Wilhelm Scream and Canada’s Living With Lions, The Riot Before will be heading into the studio with legendary producer J Robbins (Against Me!, Jawbreaker, The Promise Ring) to record the follow-up to last year’s critically acclaimed “Fists Buried In Pockets.”

At a smoke-filled press conference this morning, bassist Cory Manning admitted, “I’m still a little in shock that we are actually doing the record with J. When we first started talking about it, we thought of it more like a dream scenario than a ‘this could happen’ scenario. Now it’s happening. Crazy.”

He also added, “We are shooting for March of next year release date.”

Tracking will begin this Friday, November 20th, and continue for the following two weeks at Robbins’ renowned Magpie Cage in Washington, DC. Tentatively titled Rebellion, the album will be the band’s first record for their new home, Paper + Plastick. Earlier this year, Paper + Plastick released a digital-only acoustic version of the band’s previous album, appropriately named Fists… Out Of Sockets, which is still available as a free download here.

The band is currently planning extensive touring to coincide with the album’s release.
