“Hi friends. First off, thanks for the good words over the last month. It’s awesome to know that there are still people out there listening. You all rule. We just wanted to add some more details about what’s happening. To make a long story short, the original lineup (Mike, Ben, Travis, Dan) is back together and working on new music. Over the last few months we’ve been writing a ton of new stuff and currently have about ten new songs finished plus a bunch more in various stages. We’re all really excited about how it’s going. So far, so good! The bottom line for us is to have fun, write music, and play a few shows here and there. Just like we did when we started the band. Keep it simple. So that’s what’s happening. Thanks again for listening. See you at the shows!”

The band has a few special shows planned for the rest of the year, with more appearances planned for 2010. No official tours are in the works at this time.

Small Brown Bike shows:

Spanish Gamble release title track from “It’s All Coming Down,” their new album on Paper + Plastick!

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

sg_notsogood_blog_picGainesville, Florida’s Spanish Gamble have posted the title track to their debut full length “It’s All Coming Down.” You can check out the final version of the song on the band’s MySpace page.

“It’s All Coming Down” is scheduled to be released early December via the band’s new home, Paper + Plastick Records.

Spanish Gamble originally formed under the moniker Dirty Money in 2007 after founding members Ryan and Colin left their native New Mexico. Cutting their teeth playing around Gainesville and eventually growing restless at home, they embarked on several self-booked tours, taking them across the US several times in the last two years and building their reputation as one of the most roadworthy young bands in today’s punk scene.

As Dirty Money, they self-released their first EP, “Far From Home,” as well as two split 7 inches (one with underground hip-hop artist GDP and the other with the UK’s OK Pilot on Fail Safe Records).

In late 2008, the three-piece added a fourth member and began writing for a full-length. The band and songs had evolved and taken on a new life to a point where a name change seemed necessary. They decided on Spanish Gamble as their new chosen name and drew a line between their past and the future. Their influences are eclectic, yet their sound is cohesive. While the members are not all Gainesville natives, they fit in nicely with the scene of gruff and catchy music found in the southern punk mecca. They spent a considerable amount of time demoing the songs for It’s All Coming Down with Roger Lima (Less Than Jake/Rehasher) before venturing across the desert to Oakland, CA, where they recorded the final versions for the album with Ryan Massey (American Steel) at his Sharkbite Studio.

Spanish Gamble are currently booking a tour to support “It’s All Coming Down.” Most of the dates are filled but at time of press the band is still working out the details for some of the dates. They will also be performing once again at THE FEST 8 over the coming Halloween weekend in Gainesville, FL. You can click “more” below for the dates.

Gatorface features ex-New Mexican Disaster Squad members Richard Minino (Horsebites) and Alex Goldfarb (Alex Goldfarb). Both are also pulling double duty in the No Idea super-group No Friends.

The band has been described as having a wide range of influences, drawing on the simplicity of The Ramones, the darkness of The Adolescents and the quirky, technical hooks of Descendents.

Gatorface will be performing a pre-FEST show in their hometown at Will’s Pub on Oct 27th and a crucial set at The Fest 8 this Halloween weekend in Gainesville, FL.

The Riot Before release “Fists… Out of Sockets!”

Friday, October 9th, 2009

trb_blog_1Richmond, VA’s The Riot Before have recorded an acoustic EP version of their critically acclaimed album “Fists Buried in Pockets,” released last year on Say-10 Records. The acoustic EP is entitled “Fists… Out of Sockets.” The seven song EP is available for FREE download via the band’s recently announced new home, Paper + Plastick.

Check out the FREE download here.

Singer Brett Adams had this to say about the EP:

“Fists… Out of Sockets represents a fun departure for us. When Vinnie (Paper+Plastick) first suggested we release an acoustic version of Fists Buried in Pockets my initial idea was to just sit down in a room alone and knock it all out first take, but then I got to thinking and realized that we have a lot of really talented friends, and decided it would be fun to bring them into the recording process. With that in mind, we recruited our friend Patrick Ball to engineer and produce, and got to work re-recording 7 of the songs from Fists Buried in Pockets in his basement. We convinced some incredible musicians we knew to contribute horns and cello on a few songs and we’re all really excited how it turned out. These recordings are not at all intended to be a hint at things to come for us, rather, they represent a fun time spent recording with friends, seeing what else could be done with songs that we as a band are all still very proud of. Sometimes that led to a major reconstruction, while other times it meant removing a lot of what had been there. What we ended up with came out better than I had imagined, which had a lot less to do with us and more to do with everyone else involved, especially Patrick. We hope you enjoy it. See you on tour!”

The band is also heading out on tour with A Wilhelm Scream, including a performance at this year’s THE FEST 8 over Halloween weekend in Gainesville, FL. The band recently announced their plans to hit the studio this winter to record a new full length for their new label, Paper + Plastick.
