HIGH DIVE leak new studio album from No Idea Records/ On Tour.

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Punknews.org is leaking a stream of the entire new studio album from HIGH DIVE. The new three-piece Queer punk band from Ryan Woods of Defiance, Ohio.

You can stream the self-titled debut that was released on LP/CD via No Idea Records last month here.

Last month, No Idea Records gave away a free MP3 download from the album.

You can download the song “Tennessee” for free here.
You can order the album from No Idea, or purchase from iTunes here.

The 10 track album was recorded at Russian Recording in Bloomington, IN with Mike Bridavsky. “This is where Defiance, Ohio and lots of other Bloomington based bands record”, says Mr. Woods. “We are good friends with Mike, he is very good at what he does. We felt very comfortable with him. It was important to us to make this record very simply. We had played the songs a lot so we wanted to just be really ready. In the end it was all recorded in one session and mixed the next day. We are really happy with how it all worked out”.

Ryan commented on the inspiration for starting yet another musical outlet outside of Defiance, Ohio:

“For years, Theo Hilton (Defiance, Ohio + Nana Grizol) and I had found it
difficult to talk about the issues of being queer in our songs. It was something that was really important to us. Toby Foster seemed to have a real strength for expressing his feelings on those topics with his music. We had known Nick Romy for years and as soon as we played the few songs we had already written, it seemed to click into place. We all found a greater voice for speaking about our experiences being queer, while being influenced and excited by the energy of some of our good friends’ three piece pop-punk bands like Songs for Moms, The Max Levine Ensemble, Delay and Vacation.”

HIGH DIVE – S/T TRACK LISTING:
1. A Reason
2. Sincerity
3. Hi, How Are You?
4. I Forget To
5. I Think We’re Alone Now
6. Tennessee
7. Clean
8. I and You and We
9. Restless
10. Thank You

Punknews.org interviews Tony Pence of Deep Sleep!

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

deepsleep_turnmeoffcoverfinal “Baltimore’s Deep Sleep are about to put out their fourth release in five years. Turn Me Off, the band’s first full length, is a great old-school melodic hardcore album that shows off how much a few years can refine a band’s sound. Singer and lyricist Tony Pence spoke to PunkNews’ interviewer Brandon Campbell while serving customers in his record store. He says the new album is the best thing the band’s done yet. In this interview he also opens up about his battle with mental illness, his penchant for dark comedies and his disdain for 10-inch vinyl.”

Dear Landlord dress up like Juggalos and (more importantly) head into the studio to record!

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Dear Landlord will be heading into the studio next month to record some follow-up tracks to the fan favorite debut album, “Dream Homes”!

Brad from Dear Landlord dropped us a line to let us know what their plans are:

“We are going to Atlas Studios in Chicago on Dec. 6th, 7th and 8th to record 4 new songs. Two of them are going on a split 7″ with The Dopamines, which should be out in early 2011 on Paper + Plastick. The other two are for a different split 7″ with Toys That Kill, and that will be coming out on No Idea Records – also sometime early next year. With only 763 days until the Mayan calendar ends, we are trying to make the most of the time we have left as a band.”

While in Chicago, Dear Landlord will be playing Sunday, Dec 5th at the Subterranean. They will be sharing the stage with Chinese Telephones, Vacation Bible School (record release!) and No Enemy. Doors are at 7:00pm. Show is 17+ and $8.

You can buy tickets here.

Dear Landlord played the first slot of the No Idea Records 25 year anniversary show at FEST 9 in Gainesville this past Halloween weekend. The band played to a packed-house and surprised everyone by dressing up in full Juggalo gear.

If you missed it or want to relive it, we have footage of the band opening with “Park Bench” / “Goodbye to Oakland” / “I Live In Hell” live from FEST 9.

If you still haven’t heard the mind-bogglingly infectious Dream Homes, you can still stream the entire album on the bands’ Punknews.org band profile. The record was released last year on LP/CD courtesy of No Idea Records.

Though never attaining much more than a cult following outside their native country, the band has been cited as an influence by higher-profile bands such as Hot Water Music, Dillinger Four, and Tiltwheel.
