Spanish Gamble leak another new song from upcoming Paper + Plastick debut!

Friday, November 20th, 2009

sg_blog_2The hardest-working band in Gainesville, Spanish Gamble, have leaked another new song from their upcoming debut album “It’s All Coming Down,” to be released in early 2010 courtesy of Paper + Plastick. The song is titled “Four Letter Word” and can be heard over on the band’s MySpace page along with the previously leaked title track, “It’s All Coming Down.”

The band recently rocked a raging hometown house show, at which a good friend was able to capture some surprisingly high-quality video footage of the band performing “Four Letter Word.” That video can be viewed right over here.

Spanish Gamble originally formed under the moniker Dirty Money in 2007 after founding members Ryan and Colin left their native New Mexico for the fabled mecca of North-central Florida. Cutting their teeth playing around Gainesville and eventually growing restless at home, they embarked on several self-booked tours, taking them across the US several times in the past two years and building their reputation as one of the most roadworthy young bands in today’s punk scene. In late 2008, the three-piece added a fourth member and began writing for a full-length. The band and songs had evolved and taken on a new life to a point where a name change seemed necessary. They decided on Spanish Gamble as their new chosen name and drew a line between their past and the future. Their influences are eclectic, yet their sound is cohesive. They spent a considerable amount of time demoing the songs for It’s All Coming Down with Roger Lima (Less Than Jake/Rehasher) before venturing across the desert to Oakland, CA, where they recorded the final versions for the album with Ryan Massey (American Steel) at his Sharkbite Studios.

Prior to the album’s release, the band will be embarking on a three-week crusade up and down the East Coast with longtime friends Reverse The Curse, dates for which can be seen by clicking “more” below or visiting our tours page.

The band recorded this past summer in their hometown of Gainesville, FL at Crescendo Sound Studios (Hot Water Music, Against Me!, Leatherface, No Friends).

Failures’ Union leak another new song!

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

TOGETHER2Buffalo’s Failures’ Union have just leaked another new song from their forthcoming album, entitled “In What Way,” to be released this fall on Paper + Plastick. You can stream “Glasses” on the band’s MySpace page.

The band previously leaked three other new songs from the album. You can also listen to “The Fall Man,” “Cubist Camo,” and “Comb” right here.

The band’s history coincidentally mirrors the Mel Gibson feature film “Forever Young.” Band members Tony, Jason, and Eric hosted a college radio show together on WUOG (Athens, GA) in the fall semester of 1993. Over Christmas break, a tragic military incident resulted in the trio getting cryogenically frozen for eleven years. Luckily, a duo of lovable pranksters released them from their icy prisons while horsing around in an abandoned missile silo. After thawing, they immediately formed a band together, describing themselves as “cutting-edge indie rock” and drawing influence from “the hippest bands around today;” The Lemonheads, Gin Blossoms, Buffalo Tom, REM, The Pixies, Guided By Voices, and Counting Crows.

Failures’ Union features members of Lemuria, The Exit Strategy, and The Grail. They recently released a split 7″ with Cheap Girls on Art of the Underground. One Percent Press released their previous album, Sinker, in 2007. Other releases include an 8-song EP on Art of the Underground entitled You Know Who and a 2-song 7″ in the Art of the Underground Singles Series.

You can check out some live footage of them from this past March here.

The digital download version of the album will also contain bonus tracks, including a cover of “Downbound Train” by Bruce Springsteen, “Sleeping Weather” by Cheap Girls, and an acoustic version of their own “The New Walk Home”.

Failures’ Union will be touring this fall with good buddies and label mates Cheap Girls, with dates including stops at THE FEST 8 in Gainesville, FL and FUN FUN FUN FEST in Austin, TX. You can click “more” below for the dates!

Young Livers leak the first song from new album on No Idea Records!

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

yl_look_tough1Young Livers have leaked the first song from their long awaited sophomore album. You can check out “A Sad State In Affairs” on the band’s MySpace page.

Young Livers recorded the album this past June/July at Satellite Recordings in Ventura, CA in the sinister company of Armand John Anthony, also responsible for the auditory violence committed on last year’s Glass And Ashes “S/T” album released by No Idea Records.

The band had this to say about recording:

“We have a new record almost ready! We spent two weeks in sunny Ventura, CA with Armand and the residents of the 86 House. We recorded 13 songs from which we selected 11 to be on the record. The new material is different, as we have a different lineup than the first record, with Mike Carter playing bass and contributing some brutal vocals. We spent a lot of time in our practice space working on the material. Mike slept in Dave’s garage for a few months while we were writing, while the rest of us spent little to no time outside of practice or work. We locked our selves in the studio for two weeks and I think we produced something we are all proud of. Once we get this record out, we are going to get out for some serious touring and reuniting with friends! Also, we’re going to be using some leftover tracks for a split or two. We’ve already begun writing again and are throwing around the idea of recording again soon for something not quite an LP.”

You can also check out a studio montage video the band produced to get a sneak peak at some other songs from the album. The video can be viewed here.

This album is the follow up to the band’s critically acclaimed debut album, “The New Drop Era,” released in 2007 by No Idea Records and Kiss of Death Records. You can still stream “The New Drop Era” in its entirety on the band’s Punknews.org profile page.

Last year, the band released a split 7” with Long Island’s Bridge & Tunnel care of No Idea Records, a split 7” with UK natives Attack! Vipers! on Germany’s Yo-Yo Records, and a live split 7” with Gainesville’s Army of Ponch courtesy of Sound Study Recordings.

Young Livers are also doing a string of dates with their good friends from the United Kingdom, OK Pilot, leading up to their performances at THE FEST 8 in Gainesville, FL this Halloween weekend. You can click “more” below for the dates!
