The band has just launched a Kickstarter webpage to raise money to release their debut album “Sinker” on vinyl. For those unfamiliar, Kickstarter.com hosts donation-based fundraisers for all manner of artistic endeavors, although Failures’ Union are one of the first bands to utilize its services. Sinker was originally released in 2007 on One Percent Press.

The band had this to say about the move to raise money to fund their own release and what interesting incentives they are offing donators:

“Kickstarter.com is a great website for musicians, artists, or anyone who has an idea for a project, but little capital to get it started. Basically, people pledge a donation towards your project, and in return they get something back. For our project the lower level donations are pretty much just pre-orders. The more people pledge, the more they get in return. If someone pledges us $50, we will screen-print them any one color shirt of their choice/design. If someone pledges $75, they will get a test press of the LP. If anyone has the money to pledge $100, Tony will write and record a song specifically for/about them. There are also other pledge levels, so check out the page to see what they are.”

In more news, the band recently unearthed footage from a video they shot nearly two years ago for the song “West Coast, NY,” shot by friends Eric Ayotte and Super Bobby. You can check out the video over at Ifyoumakeit.com. The band is also giving away a free download sampler featuring a collection of music from their releases. You can download the 9 songs on the band’s website.

The band also recently welcomed a new member to their ranks. Former drummer Eric Ellman has moved to second guitar duties and left the stool to be filled by his brother Blake.

Failures’ Union leak another new song!

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

TOGETHER2Buffalo’s Failures’ Union have just leaked another new song from their forthcoming album, entitled “In What Way,” to be released this fall on Paper + Plastick. You can stream “Glasses” on the band’s MySpace page.

The band previously leaked three other new songs from the album. You can also listen to “The Fall Man,” “Cubist Camo,” and “Comb” right here.

The band’s history coincidentally mirrors the Mel Gibson feature film “Forever Young.” Band members Tony, Jason, and Eric hosted a college radio show together on WUOG (Athens, GA) in the fall semester of 1993. Over Christmas break, a tragic military incident resulted in the trio getting cryogenically frozen for eleven years. Luckily, a duo of lovable pranksters released them from their icy prisons while horsing around in an abandoned missile silo. After thawing, they immediately formed a band together, describing themselves as “cutting-edge indie rock” and drawing influence from “the hippest bands around today;” The Lemonheads, Gin Blossoms, Buffalo Tom, REM, The Pixies, Guided By Voices, and Counting Crows.

Failures’ Union features members of Lemuria, The Exit Strategy, and The Grail. They recently released a split 7″ with Cheap Girls on Art of the Underground. One Percent Press released their previous album, Sinker, in 2007. Other releases include an 8-song EP on Art of the Underground entitled You Know Who and a 2-song 7″ in the Art of the Underground Singles Series.

You can check out some live footage of them from this past March here.
