Living in Gainesville and completely awash in a churning sea of records, we often take for granted that there’s a very small number of gifted people in the world who were born to be life-long musicians. Although Mike’s been gone for years, a familiar tone strikes in the first verse of “Lives Like Mine” and carries on throughout the record. It’s nothing blatant, and if you aren’t already attached to the musical legacy of this town you’ll never even notice, but somewhere deep within the mix there’s an elusive closeness that draws the listener in. The sleepy, downcast vocals captivate and mesmerize with the deceptive intensity usually reserved for late-night conversations and the closest of friends.
Mike can also be seen rocking electric-style as the frontman of In The Red.
In early 2009, Mike announced that he was quitting his job, selling his truck, moving out of his house, and heading out to live life on the road as a full-time touring musician. He’s keeping a journal of his travels over on Punknews.org, which you can check out here.
