We here at Southern Lovin’ are wasted! Completely drunk to the gills! You know that warm, giddy, slightly rowdy feeling when you have had just enough liquid goodness consumed that you feel on top of the world and can tackle life head on? Well, we feel that way not because we have been turning up the brown liquor bottle but because we get to roll into 2009 with one of our most anticipated albums we have had the privilege to work!
We present to you the one record I can bet will find it’s way onto many of your top list a year from now! When I decided to try to step away from No Idea Records in hopes to expand the roster of bands I wanted to help in the press world, The Marked Men were at the top of my list of bands I hoped we would have the opportunity to share with the world. I remember when I first heard The Marked Men. It was at a small, late-night get-together at a good buddy’s house. You know the kind, where people are huddled together pulling all their party resources together to make it ’til the daylight burns out your eyes. Well, our fine host had been playing records all night, introducing us to new bands. He broke out a recent copy of On The Outside (Dirtnap 2005) and I was immediately floored. Here was a band that was poppy without being pop-punk. Garage without being hokey. They sounded to me, at the time, as if The Ramones had taken speed! I was instantly obsessed and have been ever since.
Then came the year of 2006, or how we like to call here in Gainesville, The Year The Marked Men Broke. Fix Your Brain (Swami) came out and it spread like a virus here in Gainesville. Every party, club, house, stop light, and backyard BBQ that year was playing Fix Your Brain, with people freaking out, singing along, and at the top of their lungs proclaiming, ‘Have you fucking heard this record yet?’ I quickly learned the album had spread the same way all over the country.
Other bands would come through town and pop into the No Idea Office, and one of the first things they would ask is if we had the Marked Men album for sale. Now, we are seeing the same thing happen years later. This time, I’m getting emails and people popping in daily asking if they should pre-order the vinyl of Ghosts or if I have any promos laying about the office. I have had to disappoint many friends so we would have enough promos to send out for review. So with that we give you Ghosts! Enjoy it as much as we’re enjoying being able to share it with you. This is a rocker, a motivator, a mover, a knee shaker!
