Goner Records delivers again! This time they’re offering the second full-length from Chicago garage pop braintrust CoCoComa. Originally conceived as a husband-and-wife guitar/drum duo and fully realized with the addition of good friend Mike on bass and farfisa organ, this second LP finds CoCoComa delving further into the fervent guitar-driven pop songs that defined their earlier records. This time around, they eased off a bit on their aggressive edge and strove to perfect their vocal melodies – a modern take on lush Byrds-ian harmonies.

Nostalgia aside, CoCoComa thankfully produce on more than one level, bearing energetic pop anthems to fuel all-night shindigs but also maintaining a facade to be uncovered by the contemplative listener. Beneath the sugary-sweet surface, more sinister elements are at work. “Things Are Not All Right” reflects a common theme running through the album – feelings of discontent and paranoia stemming from politics, religion, society and its relationships. How the listener will take it, only time will tell. For now, let it under your skin and wait for the bodies to surface.
