Dirty Tactics head into the studio with Pete Steikopf of the Bouncing Souls, tour with Dead Kennedys & post blog updates!

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Philadelphia’s Dirty Tactics have announced that they will be heading into the studio for a week starting on July 28th to record a follow up EP to their recent debut album, “It Is What It Is”, released by Say-10 Records.

At the helm will be Peter Steinkopf from the Bouncing Souls.

The band had this to say about recording and the new material:

“We had a few weeks off after we got back from Europe to face reality a little bit. The tour gave us a chance to work out the kinks on some new songs, so we are playing a couple local shows to solidify them before going into the studio with Pete Steinkopf from the Bouncing Souls to record a new EP. All of us grew up on the Souls (there might even be a couple Souls tattoos in this band… shh…), and we’ve been talking to Pete for a while about our ideas. We can’t wait to work with him. Expect some studio posts for sure.

“As far as the songs go, they each have a bit of a different vibe (Chris sings a couple; Dan sings another; we all sing on some) so we are stoked about that. We hope to get 6 songs out of it. There’ll be more information about its release in the near future, but we will definitely be playing them at our shows coming up.”

While on their massive European Tour the band posted the first in a series of video tour blogs from their adventure. You can head over to their MySpace page to check it out.

The band also wrote this entry to talk about their Euro-trip:

“We arrived in London on the first day of this seven week tour drunk as skunks thanks to the complimentary drinks from our Virgin Airlines flight. It wasn’t too soon after that when we were informed that Dan’s bass hadn’t arrived at the airport. Luckily, they had found it the next day. We had ten days in the UK ahead of us, then another six weeks of shows throughout the mainland and Eastern Europe. The fact didn’t sink into our brains for a while because we were hung-over and jetlagged.

“Early on, we met up with Bangers who would be our support for the tour, and embarked on what would become an endless trek of shows in cities big and small. Heading into the dark abyss had us all intrigued; it was an adventure. As we warmed up some new songs and got into shape after the first few shows in the UK, we were finally in our element.

“We were happy to return to Europe on our own tour, eager to play our way ‘til the end. We made it around the UK with a bunch of awesome shows—even one of them with our old buddies Cobra Skulls—plenty of good times all around. We crossed into the mainland and started to play a good mix of clubs, warehouse squats, youth centers, and even on a boat in Bremen. As we approached the middle hump of the tour, we finally caught our stride; as time trudged on, there was not a day off in Europe until after about 3 weeks – shows every night, across borders and across cultural boundaries. Stay tuned for a second installment with some more videos.”

The band will be headed out in October for a short run opening up for Dead Kennedy’s.

The Riot Before announce US tour dates and detail video shoot for “Backstage Rooms!”

Friday, June 11th, 2010

The Riot Before recently shot a music video for their song “Backstage Rooms” from their new studio album “Rebellion”, released in April on Paper + Plastick. The video, directed by Lucas Krost was shot in their hometown of Richmond, VA this past May and should see the light of day later this summer.

Bassist Corry Manning had this to comment on the details of the video:

“We shot the video all day at Brett’s house. We started at about noon and went until 4 in the morning We were using smoke machines in the house and the ADT went off and about 4 fire trucks showed up. We had to explain to the firemen “its cool, we are shooting a video”.. It was one of the longest, most stressful days of my life. The worst part is, that we still have one more shot to get, but I did get to play dice, so that was cool but I lost a lot of money…not so cool. The concept of the video is the concept of the song. Once you do something enough times it starts to become routine and isn’t as cool anymore. So, the video starts out as the biggest and best raging party you have been to and ends up as the lamest worst party ever… bummer.”

You can check out some behind the scenes footage of the video being filmed here.

The band has also released a donation based download of a B-side from “Rebellion” entitled “Blank Slate.” All money raised from the download will go to support the organization These Numbers Have Faces. You can go to the charity’s website to download the song and hear a personal message from Brett Adams of The Riot Before about his involvement and support for These Numbers Have Faces.

If you haven’t heard “Rebellion”, it’s currently being streamed on the band’s Punknews.org profile.

“Rebellion” was tracked at The Magpie Cage in Washington, DC with legendary producer J. Robbins (Jawbox, Jawbreaker, Against Me!).

The Riot Before will also be hitting the road to support their new album. The month-long tour will find the band sharing the stage with label mates Blacklist Royals and a run of dates with Nothington and Heartsounds. You can click “more” for the dates!
