Southern Lovin’ PR is the publicity branch of No Idea Records, established in the summer of 2008 with the goal of expanding our ability to work with bands, labels, and events that we’re excited about and hope to share with the world.

With over a decade of experience under his belt, veteran press wrangler Tony Weinbender was plagued with a gnawing desire to strike out on a new venture, a new scheme if you will. Having already witnessed the dark underbelly of the music industry during his early years at Fueled By Ramen Records, he’s spent the last five years grinding out press campaigns at No Idea for bands like Planes Mistaken for Stars, Fifth Hour Hero, J Church, The Holy Mountain, and Hot Water Music, not to mention masterminding Gainesville’s annual THE FEST. Already a busy man, he always felt like there was more he could offer to our ever-expanding family of friends.

He met his match when young-blood Cam Taylor, a former No Idea intern, flew the college coop and returned to Gainesville in early 2008. Dreams turned to schemes and Southern Lovin’ hit the ground running that summer with successful campaigns for the likes of Off With Their Heads, Ninja Gun, and Bridge & Tunnel. Things have only taken off from there, and with their first year drawing to a close, Southern Lovin’ is now prepared to take the next step and make things official with the launching of this website.

A lot of people ask us; “What exactly do you guys do?”

We do the same things that most other publicity companies do, but we also strive to maintain the ethics and integrity that we learned growing up in the punk rock community. Press releases, bios, and press kits are all created and distributed, but with an emphasis more on presenting the band’s ideals, attitudes, and backgrounds rather than piling on the traditional press sleaze and slag. We work with publications, websites, radio stations, and other outlets that we respect and admire rather than catering to the pompous and elite. At the same time, we understand how the press game works and we work as hard as we can to get records the attention they deserve. Walk into our office and you’ll more than likely see Tony with a phone stuck to his ear and Cam poring through emails with the undivided attention that only 8 cups of coffee can deliver.

As Southern Lovin’ continues to grow and develop, we hope to expand our family with even more friends and like-minded folk to build and strengthen that will allow us to continue to promote and share music with the independent community we all know and love.
