The Spits unleash full album stream on Punknews.org!

Friday, August 21st, 2009

shanty_spits_blogRenegade degenerates The Spits have just divulged the entirety of their latest and most nefarious album to date. Hosted courtesy of the fiendish audio technicians at Punknews.org, the album bares the official title of “The Spits” but is better known by most underground street peddlers and petty criminals as “IV” or the “School’s Out” LP.

Navigate your browser here to make your ears hemorrhage in ecstasy.

Physical evidence of said recordings is currently available on compact disc from the delinquents at Recess Records and on long-playing phonograph record from the band’s own Thriftstore Records.

At the moment, the band is spending the bulk of their time meditating and preparing improvised homemade pyrotechnics for the coast-to-coast crusade they’ll be taking at the end of the month across the Northern states, from their hometown of Seattle to the shores of the East Coast. You can click “more” below for the dates!

Gatorface leak first song from their debut LP on No Idea Records!

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

PrintOrlando’s power punk all-stars Gatorface have just posted a new song called “The Cleaner” on their MySpace page. “The Cleaner” will be featured on the band’s debut album for No Idea Records, entitled “Wasted Monuments.” No release date or artwork has been announced yet.

Gatorface features ex-New Mexican Disaster Squad members Richard Minino (Horsebites) and Alex Goldfarb (Alex Goldfarb). Both are also pulling double duty in the No Idea super-group No Friends. The band has been described as having a wide range of influences, drawing on the simplicity of The Ramones, the darkness of The Adolescents and the quirky, technical hooks of Descendents.

Gatorface will be performing this weekend at Best Friends Day in Richmond, VA as well as at The Fest 8 this Halloween weekend in Gainesville, FL.

They released a 10” entitled “Sick and Stupid” on Paper + Plastick Records earlier this year.

Eddy Current Suppression Ring’s debut “S/T” LP re-issued in the US by Goner Records!

Monday, August 17th, 2009

ecsr_cover_blogMemphis’s overlords of the garage rock resurgence, Goner Records, have just re-issued Eddy Current Suppression Ring’s self-titled debut album for the first time in the United States.

Tracked in only four hours on a Saturday afternoon in 2006, the album was originally released on Australia’s Dropkick Records, with very few imports making their way across the pond. After the infectious success of 2008’s “Primary Colors,” Goner saw fit to give the self-titled album a proper release stateside.

The band is currently hosting two songs from the album, “Get Up Morning” and “Precious Rose,” over on their MySpace page.

A full track listing can be seen below.

1. Get Up Morning
2. Cool Ice Cream
3. Pitch A Tent
4. Having a Hard Time
5. Yo-yo Man
6. Do My Thing
7. Precious Rose
8. Insufficient Funds
9. Winter’s Warm
10. It’s All Square
11. Turn Your Page

The band draws their name from the small copper rings found on electrical transformers, including those used at the vinyl pressing plant where two of the members are employed. Their lo-fi recordings and stripped-down song structures paired with animated live sets have earned them frequent comparisons to The Stooges as well as other garage titans like Wire, Jay Reatard, and The Fall.

You can expect them to hit the continental states sometime in early 2010, so get your lampshades and dancing shoes ready. In the mean time, you can read what a few critics had to say about 2008’s Primary Colors.

“The best fun house since Fun House… Iggy would approve.” – Alternative Press

“Three-plus decades after the initial dispensation, one more punk band out of the blue (Melbourne, but it could be anywhere in the English-speaking world) does the same thing punk bands have always done, only not exactly plus it sounds like they just thought of it last week, three days after they started practicing in the bassist’s basement. Off-key chants, minimal chords, spare arrangements, into confusion rather than rage from ‘long-term memory loss’ to ‘a little bit of kissing and a whole lot of hugging.’ Some are no longer susceptible to this recurrent miracle. Too bad for them.” – MSN

“The Australian quartet works with the basics to produce a simple, hooky garage punk racket, yet delivers a surprisingly multi-layered mixture when everything is said and done.” - DUSTED

The Spits unleash two more songs from new album!

Friday, August 14th, 2009

spits_canderson_blogSeattle’s notorious garage-punk miscreants The Spits have disgorged two new psalms from their recently released album, officially titled “The Spits” but known amongst nerds as “IV” or the “School’s Out” LP. Wait ‘til your boss is out to lunch and then click over to their MySpace page to check out “Life of Crime” and “Eyesore City.”

A split release care of San Pedro’s Recess Records and their very own Thriftstore Records, their new album draws on the lo-fi simplicity and revolting snot of their previous efforts while moving into more far ominous territory stylistically, due largely in part to the members’ increasingly bleak outlook on modern civilization and a perceived foreshadowing of a looming apocalypse.

They’ll be taking their mayhem to the road next month for a coast-to-coast crusade from their hometown to the shores of the East Coast.

8/27 - Seattle, WA @ Chop Suey
8/29 - Portland, OR @ Dante’s
9/1 - Fargo, ND @ The Aquarium
9/2 - St. Paul, MN @ Turf Club
9/3 - Madison, WI @ The Frequency
9/4 - Milwaukee, WI @ The Garibaldi
9/5 - Kazoo, MI @ Papa Pete’s
9/6 - Chicago, IL @ Double Door
9/7 - LaFayette, IN @ Zoolegger’s
9/8 - Cincinnati, OH @ Comet Bar
9/9 - Cleveland, OH @ Beachland Tavern
9/10 - Rochester, NY @ Bug Jar
9/11 - Brooklyn, NY @ The Knitting Factory
9/12 - New York, NY @ The Cake Shop
9/13 - New Haven, CT @ Cafe Nine

Media reports of the bands’ recent activity have varied wildly, some praising the band for their unorthodox mannerisms and others left mired in utter confusion.

“This expectorates GENIUS! If they told me this was from ’78 and was a punk/lo-fi
new wave pioneer band I was supposed to worship I’d not question them for a second and would play along like I had their essential seven inch.” - Roctober Zine

“So simple and so cool… ‘77 style punk with a minimum of chords, buzzing guitar, a dollop of no wave keyboards and vocals that are a pure tribute to Joey Ramone (though more loutish).” - Suburban Voice

“What’s up with those moustaches? Are they cops? Are they Nazis? Are they dweebs? Are they capable of creating bombs and drugs in a lab? Do they really skate? I’m completely hypnotized by this.” - Scram
